DUE FRIDAY, MAY 30 (WILL REQUIRE YOUR PURDUE EMAIL ADDRESS)
  • Safety training requirements for lab-based research in ChE

    1. Complete the “Purdue - Lab Safety Fundamentals” online training course using the Learning Management System (https://otis.osmanager4.com/Purdue ). Before using the online learning platform for the first time you must register by setting up a new user account profile. To register, click the "REGISTER" button on the login page and provide a user ID and password, as well as other required information. You will need to complete all required sections including quizzes, and take the test. Save a copy of the “Record of Completion” Certificate received upon completion of the course. 
    2. Read the Lab Specific Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) and complete the Lab Specific CHP Certification (page 81 in the Purdue CHP template). Save a PDF copy
    3. Have lab specific safety training, including training on all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with the lab safety officer of the group.
    4. Have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training with the safety officer (or PI) for the lab you’ll work in. This needs to be documented by completing the PPE Certification of Training Form
    5. Complete any specialized training, as identified by your PI/Research Supervisor.
    6. Review the Building Emergency Plan (BEP) for FRNY Building

PURDUE EMAIL

  1. You will need to use your Purdue email address to access several of the systems we will be using this summer.
  2. Call Purdue ITAP at 765-494-4000 (https://itap.purdue.edu), which is open 24 hours.
    1. Choose option #1 to get to a staff person.
    2. Tell them that you are a visiting researcher on the West Lafayette campus and would like to set up your email address and password before you arrive on campus. 
    3. You will need to provide the following (PUID and alias are in the Welcome email, sent to you on May 9):
      • PUID
      • Purdue username (alias), also called career account
      • Full name
      • Date of birth
      • Address
      • Valid ID to show in a Zoom call
    4. Download the DUO and Microsoft Authentication apps to your phone because you will use these regularly.

COMMUNICATION

DRESS CODE

  • You will need closed-toe shoes to work in the lab.
  • Dress is casual most days.
  • You will need one business casual outfit for the poster session.

TRAVEL TO PURDUE

  • You will be living in First Street Towers Residence Hall.
  • Location on Google Maps, the main entrance is on First Street.
  • Parking is permitted in areas designated for residence hall permits (these have white signs). Do not park in spaces marked A/B/C or other specialty spaces
  • There is a free week-day shuttle between Purdue WL campus and the Purdue campus in Indianapolis, details here.

MOVING IN

  • Check-in is Wednesday, June 4, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm 
  • We will meet in the first-floor lounge of the main building for lunch at 12:30 pm.
  • These are single rooms with private bathrooms
    • Bed linens, blanket, pillow with pillow case, towel, and washcloth are provided. Sheets and towels are exchanged once a week.
    • Washers and dryers are provided on the floors at no charge. They are located behind the dinette area.
    • Each floor has two large-screen TVs located in the shared living room.
    • AT&T wi-fi is a free service provided for use with any wireless capable device.
    • You will have a meal plan that includes dinner each weeknight at the nearby dining hall. Other meals are on your own. There will be a small refrigerator in your room.

    Week 1 on campus

    Wednesday, June 4
    • Move in 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
    • Welcome Lunch, 12:30 - 2:00 PM, to meet the CISTAR team, in the lounge on the main floor of the central building at First Street towers.
    • Campus tour with Jorge
    • Dinner in the Dining Court with Jorge and the REU students
    Thursday, June 5
    • Meet Jorge at the main entrance of First Street Towers at 8:00 am to walk to breakfast.
    • Breakfast at Another Broken Egg at 8:30 am, meet your faculty mentor
    • Introduction to the lab in the FRNY building, in-person safety training
    • Dinner in the Dining Court with Jorge and the REU students
    Friday, June 6
    • Morning, research in FRNY
    • Afternoon Field Trip to Benton County Wind Farms, meet at the main entrance to First Street Towers at 1:00 pm

    Week 2 on campus

    MONday, June 9
    • EPICS Workshop, through June 11

    EMERGENCY PREPARATION

    Sign up for emergency text messages at http://www.purdu .edu/securepurdue/. Click
    on the "Change Your Password" icon, and log in. Then click on emergency contact
    information in the right column under the account tools list. Finally, enter your cell phone
    number. (Please get in touch with your service provider to ensure that your phone can receive
    such messages.) To be removed from the text system, follow the above procedures and
    delete your cell phone number.
